JUST ASK GRACE

Grace
let us
Grace has been our go-to-gal in the Jag office for years. Like any bigger than life personality, (think Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Leprechauns) Grace has been our touchstone when it comes to all things fashion. She has also been a closely guarded secret (and dear madcap friend) here at Jag. But we finally thought, "What the heck...why not share Grace's infinite wisdom with those who love our jeans?" So, without further ado, Just Ask Grace...

Dear Grace,

The whole yoga performance bottom worn as street wear seems to still be happening (I see it on every mom when I drop my daughter off at school). I love the comfort of this look but I won't be one of those clone moms in the same look chatting, holding their lattes and talking about their kid's accelerated placement. What do you have that's a break through option?

Signed,

Gonna Lead the Pack

Dear Lead,

Thanks for taking the reigns on this one. Someone's got to do it! You should check out Jag's Emma legging in ponte. Their ponte fabric can add a great performance look to your wardrobe, and the styling is completely on trend. The Emma has slimming, sexy faux leather insets that will give you just the right amount of "I'm not your average PTA mom" look. Oh, and let me know if these change the conversation from SAT scores to "Where can a get a pair of those?"

Love, Grace

Dear Grace,

I love the look of leather pants for fall. I've had pairs in the past, but I find them uncomfortable and expensive. Do you have an alternative that might fit the bill?

Signed,

Looking for Leather

Dear Looking.

I think I might have the answer to your prayers. Jag has a super sexy coated denim in black that will give you the look that your going for with more comfort and (you'll love this) will be way less expensive than leather. They've made it up in their Nicolette cut. This coated denim look is all the rage and creates a final result that is sure to turn heads. Wear them with a crisp white shirt and sexy black boots and you'll be set!

Love,

Grace

Dear Grace,

I have to confess that I love fall and especially because it gives me a chance to flaunt my favorite obsession. Boots! I have 3 pairs that I've bought this season just waiting to be worn. Do you have a recommendation for a jean that will show off my new gems?

Signed,

Nancy Sinatra at heart

Dear Nancy,

A woman who is obsessed with shoes or boots? How rare. Somehow I think this trait is embedded in our genetic makeup. That being said, boots are the "it" choice in footwear this season, and there's no better way to show them off than when paired with our Paley bootcut jean. Sleek, stylish and simple the Paley won't draw attention away from those fab boots you're dying to wear. Keep walkin' Nance.

Dear Grace,

I'm going on a trip with my girlfriends for a wine tasting weekend to Napa. Would you recommend white denim or is too early in the season?

Signed,
Not White Sure

Dear White,

If you are going to a warm sunny locale, which you are, I think it's never too early for white denim. When I wear white, I feel instantly on vacation (even in the city). Jag offers a great range of white jeans in a variety of fits. Even a jean jacket!

But honey, if you are going wine tasting and are even CONSIDERING touching a glass of red, I would recommend packing at least 2 pairs...

Bottoms up!
Love, Grace

Dear Grace,

I'm in a bit of a fix. I've been wearing jeans tucked into boots all winter and I'm getting a bit tired of that look. I 'm about to wear something a bit springy as far as footwear, and the next day I wake up to 6" of snow. Can you recommend a jean style for in between seasons?

Signed,
Giving The Season The Boot

Dear Boot,

I am tracking with you.And when I say tracking, I'm talking about the snow that I just tracked into the office.

I just reviewed the Jag Spring collection and they have a great jean called the Drew. It has a skinny ankle which makes it perfect for tucking into a boot or (heaven help us we get a warm day) looks great with an ankle bootie or a spring wedge.

This is truly the transitional jean of the season. And as always with Jag, the Drew comes with just the right amount of stretch making it super comfortable.

Now if they would just make a parka that turns into a tank top we'd be all set...

Hope this helps,
Grace

Dear Grace,

What do you think about the new boyfriend jeans that I've been seeing and where should they be worn?

Signed, BF Wondering

Dear BF,

Depending on your job, think of boyfriend jeans like a real boyfriend.
Would you bring him to work with you? Probably not. But would you hang out with him after work and each and every weekend? Absolutely!
That being said, the boyfriend I would hang with is Jag's Henry boyfriend jean. Slightly abraded and even embellished for a more feminine look, the Henry is a bit more tailored and not sloppy looking like some boyfriends.
If for any reason you can bring your boyfriend to work, please no sloppy ones.

Dear Grace,

I'm looking for a fun top to go with colored or denim jeans. I have a lot of patterned tops... can you suggest any alternatives?

Signed,
What's up...Tops?

Dear What's up,

Funny you should ask. I just saw the latest tops that Jag has done for late fall, and one particularly caught my eye. They call it the Rio, a cute western inspired denim number that has a fitted sexy cut.

Pearl buttons, western yolk detail... kind of Roy Rogers meets Marilyn Monroe... (if those names ring a bell) It also has great stretch.. and I think would even look great with a contrasting denim bottom, a look that we're seeing a lot of.

Hope that helps... and happy trails!

Dear Grace,

I'm trying to put together some looks for the holiday party season.. I have so many pairs of Christmas plaid wool pants that I could open my own Scottish Shop, so please don't even go there.
I would love to find something that whispers holiday, not screams it. Hopefully something I could continue to wear into the New Year.

Signed, I'm Dreaming of a Subtle Christmas

Dear Subtle,

Plaids, snowflake sweaters, any of that "Connecticut Home for the Holidays" look has long been banished from my wardrobe. So, no need to worry.
How about some " shimmer" this season? Jag's Miranda slim comes in some great metallic finishes, not too Christmas-y but festive enough for an office party or home entertaining. And since they're not in predictable red-and-green, they can be worn from Thanksgiving all the way through spring! These are the perfect holiday whisperers.

You know all those wool plaids? Why not cut them up and turn them into scarves or pillows for the season.... and give them away!

Happy Sparkle...

Dear Grace,

I've heard that "Grey is the New Black" and if that's true, then what color is grey? (that was a trick question...). But on a serious note, what do you suggest in grey if this is a trend that's happening? I would love your advice.

Signed, What's the Grey anatomy?

Dear Grey,

My advice? First, don't give up your day job for a career at the Comedy Club....
Second... Everything is always the new everything depending on which magazine you read.

But ... grey is important this season and if you want my advice (again), you can't go wrong with Jag's famous Malia slim pull-on in Thunder Grey. Grey is a great addition to any wardrobe, and this jean is sleek, has stretch and that smoothing and shaping waistband that Jag is known for.

So that's it... and I have no punch line....

I figure there's only room for one comedian here at a time...

Dear Grace,

I love the straight leg jean trend that is now in fashion, but I don't want to look like my skateboarding kids. Is there a way I can wear straight jeans and not look like a trying-to-hard teenager?

Signed, Needs Some Straight Talk

Dear Straight,

This is a question I've been getting a lot lately. First, finding a straight leg jean that doesn't make you look like a stuffed sausage makes all the difference. Jag's Jackson Straight is perfectly proportioned so that it is flattering, slightly form fitting and never to tight. Worn with a suede wedge, or cuffed high with an ankle boot (a little more daring) this would be the jean for a grown-up polished look.

And in case this ever crosses your mind, avoiding black and white checked canvas shoes will also dramatically decrease any skateboarder confusion.

Dear Grace,

Is there an alternative to the bright colored denim of spring? I'm not quite ready to give up color in my fall wardrobe, but it's time to stop looking like a garden flower.

Signed, Something Else

Dear Something,

I'm with you on not wanting to lose color once fall hits. Looking down at a bright hit of color in my outfit is sometimes the only thing that gets me throuh the dark days of autumn.

A great alternative to colored denim is colored corduroy. This season Jag has corduroy in almost every style they make, including jackets. The Jackson cord being one of my favorites... The colors they have come up with are nothing short of terrific. And they look great when paired with a washed fitted denim shirt. So, put away those bright pastels and slip into something a little more... corduroy!

Dear Grace,

I'm looking for a new jean style for fall, can you tell me about this boyfriend trend? I don't want to look like a slouch, just cool and comfortable.

Signed, Help Me Find a Boyfriend

Dear Help,

I decided after my second marriage that boyfriends were not going to be just a trend, but a way of life! So much easier... That being said, I think you are referring to the reemergence of the boyfriend jean. This is a style that when worn right, doesn't have to look frumpy.

Jag's new boyfriend cut is more fitted at the waist than other boyfriend cuts, creating a cleaner silhouette. They come in a variety of finishes or slightly abraded and roughed up. And there's one decision I made long ago, if you have to have a boyfriend... sometimes he'll arrive a little "roughed up."

Have fun with whichever boyfriend you choose.

Love, Grace
